"Natasha" has been named a finalist in the 2008 Art Kudos International Exhibition!
Art Kudos is an online-only gathering of exceptional art. Only in it's fourth year, it has steadily grown in both scope and reputation. This year's exhibition contains 128 works from 13 countries around the world. An incredible variety of mediums and artistic styles are represented in this year's show and the quality is outstanding. It is a wonderfully diverse group.
The exhibition went online today and can be viewed at ArtKudos.com. Charles was also a finalist in last year's show. That can be viewed in the archives section of their webpage.
At the opening reception of the Atlanta Fine Arts League's 2nd National Exhibition last Friday night, August 1, Charles' painting "Lavender Lace" was honored, quite unexpectedly, with what I thought was the most meaningful award of the evening - the Kerry Aube' Lingle Memorial Sunflower Award.
Unfortunately, Charles was out of town that evening and was not there to accept in person, so I stepped in on his behalf. Pictured above are Matthew Lingle, Pat Aube' and Tom Gray, and myself, with Charles' painting "Lavender Lace."
Kerry Aube' Lingle was the daughter of AFAL charter member Pat Aube' Gray. She was a very talented and creative graphic designer with a bright and giving nature. She was tragically lost to her family just last summer. Her parents, her husband and the Atlanta Fine Arts League created this award as a very special way to honor her memory.
Her mother, Pat Aube' Gray lives, teaches and creates her art in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of North Georgia. You can visit her website to view her lovely works, or read more about her daughter Kerry and the Memorial Sunflower Award on her blog, Art Matters.
The AFAL 2nd National Exhibition will remain on display until September 26, 2008 at the Roswell Visual Arts Center Gallery in Roswell, Georgia.
The dates for the next two 6-week sessions of Charles' ongoing painting class at Binders have been set. The class will meet on Tuesdays, August 19 - September 23 and October 14 - November 18, 2008. Again, both afternoon and evening classes are offered.
Serious art classes that impart true working knowledge are hard to find this far from New York - don't pass up this opportunity!

Charles' beautiful still-life painting "Gold Elephant" has won The President's Award at the Salmagundi Club's 31st Annual Juried Painting and Sculpture Exhibition for Non-Members in New York City!
The awards reception was held this past Friday, July 18th in the gallery at their beautiful brownstone location on Fifth Avenue. Needless to say, we are thrilled!
"Lavender Lace" has been named as one of only 44 finalists in the 2nd Annual National Juried Exhibition of the Atlanta Fine Arts League.
This exhibition was juried by the wonderfully talented New York based realist painter Yuqi Wang, winner of the Grand Prize in the Portrait Society of America's annual competition. Most recently, he also won a major award in the National Portrait Gallery's biennial Outwin Boochever Portrait Competition.
AFAL scored a tremendous coup when they secured Mr. Wang to teach 2 week-long workshops in Atlanta this summer and as a result he will be in town and in attendence at the opening reception to present the awards.
Only 2 1/2 years old, the Atlanta Fine Arts League has already hosted 2 national juried exhibitions with a third in the works and has presented workshops with nationally recognized artists. AFAL has also received tremendous recognition by the public, the news media, the Georgia General Assembly and the Georgia Governor for their community project Art From the Heart - artists donating their time and talents to creat portraits of Georgia's fallen soldiers for their families.

Every year the Marietta / Cobb Museum of Art holds a juried exhibition to showcase the best artists of the local North Georgia and metro Atlanta area. The Metro Montage Exhibit is now in its eighth year and has become quite a vibrant and ecelectic gathering.
Charles has had two paintings accepted into this year's show - his stunning and enigmatic portrait "Sarah Danielle" and the lush and stately "Still Life with Quince."
The exhibition's opening reception will be Saturday evening, July 12. Come out and mingle with some of the best artists Atlanta has to offer.

The Salmagundi Club is a 130 year old historic institution of art in New York City and continues to serve as a center for fine artists from New York and around the country. Their non-member juried exhibitions serve as a venue for recruiting new members while preserving the highest standards of artistic achievement.
The exhibit opens on June 30 and closes with the awards reception on July 18. Their beautiful gallery is open to the public, so if you happen to be in the area, please drop in. I'm sure it will be a wonderful show.

On the afternoon of Sunday May 18th, the Tennessee Art League held the awards reception for their 43rd annual Central South Art Exhibition National. Charles received the ArtVentures Group Award for his lovely portrait of Melissa.
Of the 430 total entries, only 67 pieces were selected for inclusion in the exhibition by the juror, well-known Tennessee painter Dawn Whitelaw. Within that number, she allowed for a wonderful variety of both style and medium.
The Tennessee Art League's gallery is on the ground floor of their beautiful three-story brick-front building in downtown Nashville, just across the street from the Frist Center for the Visual Arts. They're working hard to restore the building - the first floor gallery looks very contemporary with nice high ceilings, the second floor is private studio space, and the third floor houses two good-sized classrooms and a library.
We had a very nice time during our short visit to Nashville. Many thanks to the TAL members for a wonderful awards reception. With live music and good food, they know how to do it right.
