"Majesty Rising" Accepted into OPA National Exhibition

Charles and I were thrilled to learn awhile back that "Majesty Rising" had been accepted as a finalist in the upcoming Oil Painters of America National Exhibition.

Of the more than 1800 entries submitted to this prestigious show, only 200 were accepted, so I was walking around with a big goofy grin for quite some time after we got the news!

This year's exhibition is hosted by InSight Gallery in historic Fredericksburg TX and the opening reception is next weekend, May 18. The show runs through June 17.

If you can't make it down to Texas, all of the artwork is also available to view online on the gallery's website. The 98 page exhibition catalog is also posted there.

"Incense Burner" receives award at Salon International

We've had a busy few weeks recently, or I would have posted this great news sooner --
"Incense Burner" won an Honorable Mention for Artistic Excellence at the Salon International Exhibition in San Antonio TX!

The exhibition comes down later this week, but is currently still available to view on-line at the Greenhouse Gallery of Fine Art's website.
The awarding judge was New York based artist Max Ginsburg.

Painting Classes in Atlanta

The next session of Charles' ongoing painting classes in Atlanta will start up again next week.
These classes regularly utilize still life, portrait and figure work.

SPECIAL for the April / May session:
The evening class will have a figure model available for all six classes!
The afternoon class will work from still life for the first 4 classes, and from a figure for the last 2 classes of the session.

$140 for six weeks

New Work: "Gilt Vase with Plums"

Another lovely still life making its on-line debut.
This vase has been the subject of several of Charles' paintings and will no doubt show up again sometime in the future. Its wonderful surface makes it both a challenge and a joy to paint.

Two Paintings Accepted into Salon International Exhibition

"Standing Nude"

We're very pleased to announce that Charles has had 2 pieces accepted into this year's Salon International Exhibition.

"Standing Nude" and "Incense Burner" will both be traveling to San Antonio TX next month and will hang with the other finalists at the Greenhouse Gallery of Fine Art from April 13 - May 3.

This piece was painted entirely from life within a limited time frame. It's always amazing to me how Charles can convey the most complex information with just a few brushstrokes. The structure of the model, as well as the depth and atmosphere of her surroundings, have been distilled to their essence.
