Hot Off the Press!

The current (May '08) issue of American Art Collector magazine features an article spotlighting the upcoming Oil Painters of America National Juried Exhibition hosted by Dana Gallery in Missoula, Montana. Not only is Charles' painting "Of Wood and Roses" prominently displayed on the opening two-page spread, but he's quoted later on in the article as well!

...

Exhibiting artist Charles Young Walls hopes his paintings convey a deeper reality, rather then a photographic feel.

"I'm amazed at the quality of realism these days as the standards keep rising. I think of myself primarily as a painter, not of portrait or still life or figure, but simply a painter," says Walls. "I want to continue to learn and grow artistically toward a greater understanding of the language of art. The pursuit of excellence drives me and, I suspect, many other artists whose quality doesn't rest on their past work but with their ongoing explorations into the mystery of life and art."

...

This issue of American Art Collector also contains our very first advertisment in a national magazine. Overall, we are just tickled pink right now.

The OPA National Juried Exhibition hangs from May 2nd through June 14th at Dana Gallery. "Of Wood and Roses" is available for sale; contact the gallery for information on that.

New Works: "Holly - the First Sitting"

Holly and her mother visited Charles in the studio one afternoon two weeks ago for an introductory meeting and initial sitting. This beautiful painting was the result.

Painted from life with amazingly vibrant brushwork, I knew as soon as I saw it that this piece was a keeper. She just seems to glow right off that surface. Wow! (20 x 16, oil on panel, 2008)
