Painting Demonstration at Atlanta Artists Center

Well, January has been a busy month for demonstrations...

Charles was the featured presenter last week at the monthly meeting of the Atlanta Artists Center. The crowd of more than 60 was standing room only and many hung around to ask specific questions and get a closer look when Charles kept painting after the alotted time was up!

Thanks to Programs Director Clara Blalock for making the arrangements and for dinner beforehand. (BTW, for anyone who hasn't eaten there before, Basil's Restaurant next door on Grandview Avenue is superb!)

And just a reminder, AAC will be hosting Charles' next workshop on the last weekend of March: Painting the Concept - a Direct Approach. For more info, scroll down to last week's post about it or click here.

Upcoming Oil Painting Workshop

Over the weekend of March 28-30, 2008, Charles will be conducting an oil painting workshop at the Atlanta Artists Center, located in the heart of the Buckhead district of Atlanta.

"Painting the Concept - A Direct Approach" will begin with a demonstration on Friday evening to introduce everyone to the ideas that will be covered over the weekend.

The demo is also open to those not taking the workshop, for a fee of $20.

Open to all levels, this workshop will challenge those who attend to develop a painting using a logical and progressive approach, to paint directly without an underdrawing. Utilizing the still-life, the focus is to inspire the student to move forward into a more satisfying way of handling paint - to gain control of the rich medium of oil painting with confidence and understanding.

Informative and passionate, Charles approaches art instruction by addressing visual principles and the material power of technique to equip the student with the skills to fulfill their own artistic vision.

The fee is $230 for AAC members , $265 for non-members. A supply list will be emailed to you upon registration.

Contact the Atlanta Artists Center to register: 404-237-2324 or via mail at: AAC, 2979 Grandview Ave., Atlanta GA 30305.

Painting Demonstration for the Fayette Society of Fine Art

Last week Charles had the honor of being the guest presenter for the January meeting of the Fayette Society of Fine Art.

After their short business session, Charles presented a 2 hour oil-painting demonstration and informational lecture using a small still life set-up to illustrate his points. While painting, he fielded a wide range of questions from the group covering subjects from technique and materials to business. He must have been a hit! Initial plans are now being made by the Fayette Society of Fine Art to sponsor a workshop later in the year. We'll let you know when details become available.

Many thanks to Mary Greene for extending the initial invitation. It was a lovely evening. You all made us feel very welcome.

New Works: "Lavender Lace"

This wonderfully mysterious young lady lounges in a ray of sunlight in this latest painting to leave Charles' easel. I especially love the sensuous atmosphere he's so successfully captured here - the colors just seem to hum with anticipation. I wonder what she's thinking there, as she watches us with hooded eyes... New Works: "Daisies in Terra Cotta"

Charles just finished up this beautiful little gem of a still-life. A warm touch of summer here in January. (12 x 16, oil on panel)
